Student shoot one or more films with student actors cast from the DV Acting class based on scripts written in the DV Scriptwriting class. The class begins by reading scripts and selecting one for production. Students then complete exercises and workshops covering the basics of working with actors, script analysis, storyboarding, shot listing, location scouting, camera operation, lighting, sound recording techniques, producing, and on-set best practices. The majority of the class is devoted to group production of one or more short DV films. Students rotate through different production roles such as director of photography, assistant camera, sound recordist, boom operator, lighting crew, props/wardrobe, and continuity/script supervision. Students screen "rushes" (unedited footage) on the final class and evaluate them for editing potential. They also review their work and summarize the lessons learned through the multi-week film production project. |
